Experience
I have experience as a lecturer and professor at the high school- and university-level in several Latin American countries. I have taught small groups of students and business executives. As a native Latin American, I have an intuitive knowledge of the language and culture. I understand that teaching Spanish is more than conversation, reading, and writing; it is equally important to include Latin American culture. This makes the learning process more interesting and relevant, so that students retain what they have learned. I make use of theoretical sessions and include the practical aspects of everyday life. I believe that homework is important, as long as it doesn't overwhelm. I like to keep things fun and entertaining, and use games, songs, and movies in the session. My sessions also include assessments and progress reports.I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua. I have a master's in international relations from the Pontifical Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Columbia, and a Ph.D. in International Law and International Relations from the Preston University of Southern California. I have also completed various studies in continuing education. I was an ambassador in Latin America as well as an alternate representative of Nicaragua for the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. The years I have spent as a diplomat have enriched my understanding of Latin American culture. I enjoy teaching, and continue to seek out teaching opportunities. I am inspired to share my knowledge due to the wonderful teachers who have inspired me.
